Barbary Royal

Among luscious green land, capped by mountain white
lived then King of kings, and his lovely queen of might
where Eden, thus a carpet, their paws trod path’s delights
even in coolest darkness, you could hear their call of night

Strolled the potent of the mighty, a regal lion birthed
the largest of his kind, having roamed this heady earth
while his lifelong mate of class, bears cubs of royalty
feeds them rich sweet milk, and all live as family

They stood before the test of man, greeting his invade
eyeing their two legged stand, did not attempt evade
now their carpets green have gone barren by mankind
so look into their history, and you too shall see signs

Their lands are bleak and barren, given substantial waste
man had come about them, brought with them their race
two legged men took the royal King, and ringed to slavery
the mightiest of the mighty, casting forth his bravery

Egyptians and Persians explored the Mount Atlas
home of the Royal Lion, soon mankind trespassed
all of their sanctuary, all that then was their home
soon the Barbary Royal, had no place to roam

Men had thought bravery lie in acts of killing
took upon the hunt, the lions were not willing
but thousands died by the swift sword of men
history then repeated these vilest acts again

Soon the Roman Empire brought the King of Beasts
before tables were laden, public treated to such feasts
as blood’s sport, then games, the gladiators fought
as Royal Lion’s fee, more than a slave’s fee brought

Thousands of Royal Barbary lived only come to die
upon the sword of Romans who ruled neath earth and sky
in monuments of stone the Romans bestowed quick death
on the plains where green is gone, soon they numbered less

Past the plains of Barbary, the lion swift has fled
into lands of nothingness, filled with stark and dread
now the claim of mighty beast lay in hands of true
all that would bring its mighty rule back to best is you

now we have the conscience, and science at its best
to bring forth once again, the might King of Beasts
look into your heart, and see to hear the roar
the chance to see Royalty walk the plains once more
