That spring
We were both looking for warmth
And the sun wanted to hide
Behind piled clouds
Playing hide and seek with
Us mere mortals.

A Friday free
So we drove 150 miles on back roads
Bouncing over ruts while talking
Philosophy and feelings mingled
With stops to stretch legs
Along with our minds.

We found the river bluff
Quite by accident it seemed
And the mossy patch we sat on
Was almost too cold
But jackets used as cushions
Kept the chill from seeping in.

You suggested a fire,
So I started to rise and search for wood,
But you took my hand leading it instead
To the warmth under your shirt
Igniting a fire we kept warm by

Later, stretched out on discarded clothes
We let the peek-a-boo sun warm winter skin
drying the moisture condensed
From our steam.

The fire went out much later
But I still remember Spring

This is beautiful! Very very visual...excellent write!
"The fire went out much later
But I still remember Spring"
Touched my hopelessly romantic heart, it did!
Loved it, Nancy Lee.

~Somewhere in my heart I'm always
Dancing with you in the summer rain~

The descriptions put me right there -- such are the snapshots of life.  Makes me curious about other pictures in this roll of film...

Capt--In the numerous ways to keep warm, you found the best on the bluff.  Wonderful poem!

Back roads lead to the best places...even if the road eventually ends.  Your poetry helps me to remember in love, at least a little more than I remember in pain.  (If that makes any sense at all)
