RedLining

you’ve left
behind
words to edit

requested
“redline” and all

cut, paste,
rearrange
words of
fond recall

so I highlight,
delete,
underscore
as
old words
grace the floor

knowing now
is your evermore
all of which
we’ve heard before

aware that
redlining defines
our realize,
making dryer than
parched paper
these eyes
leaving behind
traces
having fed
absent embraces

now words
carpet floors
they were your
forevermore
having once
used, then
abused them,
now you would
re-choose them
for new ifs
and whens

you’ve asked,
so I
cut, edit,
delete, redline
mark yet again
passages of
time

scattered, “love”
fell under
“you”, eyes
redlined “I”
now clipped,
floated with
lost grace,
blanketing
layers of lost
space

redlines,
awaiting a
broom

Now I understand...    Bring out the red pen!
