~*~ The Flutterby ~*~

Oh Auntie look! I found a flutterby!
Her tiny hand held it out to me;
She grasped it firmly in her little fist,
Clutching it, so afraid to set it free.

Lovingly, I had to teach her that day,
One of life's most painful tests;
Sometimes the ones we love the most,
We will hurt more than all the rest.

The butterfly thankfully was still alive,
Alas, but its gossamer wings were bent;
This tiny, intricate, miracle of grace,
It's beautiful rainbow wings all but spent.

The magic dust sparkled on her hand,
Big tears welled up in her blue eyes;
I hugged her to my breast and said,
'Oh honey, real love never really dies'.

We spoke at length of letting go,
Holding love a little less tightly;
But to hold it gently in our hearts,
Shows love much more, when lightly.

That day when she was so very small,
We mourned more than a delicate butterfly,
We shared a magic, tender moment,
I'll always thank that 'flutterby'

Ramrog: I bet we all have a "flutterby" story to tell of our dealings with children, and I bet they too remember them, I know my neice always remembers this one.  Oh...thank you so much for reading this.

Janet Marie -
Flutterbys silently whisper by,
So if you see one with mind's eye,
Feeling it was meant to be,
To "flutterup" heart's memory.  Thank you!

Sharon--It is wonderful that your wisdom saw the perfection of a moment to teach about love.  An amazing poem, my friend!

Vicky ~ This is kind of a "if you love something, set it free story" isn't it?  She and I shared many of these as I am many do with children, and I am sure glad you enjoyed this moment, thank you.
