She is olden in her beauty
Rich as the ashen soil
Delicate as the spanish moss
Hanging from the trees
Like the oak of ancient
She welcomes all in open
Arms. Stretching wide across
The lanes, of time.
The hostess of Southern grace
Delivers her speech, blushing
In the fluid bloom of azaleas
She is no stranger, to strangers
She has stood the test of time
And watched many from the dock
Of her seaport, Rise up in the
Horizon. She spends a quiet hour
Billowing white in yards of
Antique lace, With a single ribbon
Of bright yellow tied around her
Waist. Elegant in her reception.
Simply charming in her bare feet.
Waiting for love to weigh anchor
Within the shade of her seventeenth
Century heart.

I know the love of the land that inspired this. and she is BEAUTIFUL...gracious, and I could smell the talcum and feel the hospitality. Lovely, me' friend.

I have not had the pleasure of visiting, but have spent some time in other southern cities and towns... I find there is a paradoxical feel to them. Many pleasant and wonderful things to comment on and histories that may not be as pleasant as the images....and in some cases...still the lingering prejudices that seem to deny equality...

you paint a lovely picture... and the poem is very well done... I enjoyed

Hi Rwood,

I've been to Savannah and loved the quaint
streets, the warm hospitality and the old world ambience echoing throught the shops,
houses, and gardens. Your poem is a beautiful personifcation of the city's spirit and the imagery perfectly underscores the elegance of your theme.

Enjoyed

Thank you for painting a Beautiful picture with your poem. I will have to put this on my list of places to visit.

Throw your heart out in front of you
And run out to catch it.
