A Cleansing Of Spirit And Mind

A cleansing of the spirit and mind,
Is a never-ending journey,and,
Not for the weak of heart or the impatient.
There is tension in this serenity, and pain.
Pain holds my hand and takes me forward,
For only ahead are there answers and hope.
The path is long and must be walked alone.
Smells of the sea air announce season's changes.
Gentle night winds start to move,
As if by some some knowing, they flow and shift,
In the darkness of this summer night,
Gentle, warm and still so new.
It’s the uterine darkness of the infant,
Inevitably inexorably moving towards light.
The wind off the ocean speaks of change,
Unpredictable movement, and uncertainty.
The Waves dance, sometimes in a flurry,
Sometimes a gentle caress, and sometimes
A violent pushing that threatens to crash,
Forcing me to fall back, gasping for breath.
I flow through this collage imagining,
So many images juxtaposed one against the other.
Images of poignancy, integrity, and caring.
I recall a birth, death, and at sunset,
These things drift into my consciousness,
And then as the tides, they drift out again.
I sense and feel by the ocean’s edge, and,
With half-closed eyes recall a dream.
A dream, so magnificent that it spoke to me,
Of a wondrous flight of knowledge once taken.
One moment feeling the delicate flutter of angels,
The next, the powerful beating of eagle’s wings,
But all leading to the same destination.
I still see those vague elusive images,
Like shadows in my peripheral vision.
They come and escape as soon as I look at them.
Such a yearning and aching in gifted messages,
And still I want to understand this light.
I am left with residual feelings,
They haunt and tease me, and yet, protect me.
These are what ultimately compel me forward.
I am at that place, at least for now,
I can face the bitter winds when they come,
Embrace them as they blow through my hair.
I search for the real gifts of knowledge,
Drinking from the cup of truth they bring.
With each lesson hard fought and won,
I add another incandescent feather,
To my wings and fly.  I flew before.
Now I fly a bit further, and a bit farther,
And just a bit higher.

This work gives me a tingly feeling.
It shows how one must crawl and soar
to get to that sacred place.

Well done, Mysteria.

Dear Mysteria,
The searching never ends, nor do those feelings once in a while that your life is in limbo, though your feet are solid on the ground. You don't see yourself as others do sometimes. You've lived life and paid your dues, so you thought, and then something comes along that cuts right to the core. And so you start searching again.
An angels silence and an angels flutterings are the rhythms of life.
Best wishes for your contentment and peace
And real big hugs for this one
I loved it
Liz

Sharon, this vivid heart-felt piece was so intense that I could feel the angel wings softly flittering around me... and then the eagles flapping strength was felt. What a great insightful write. You are indeed a poet laureate.........You are flying higher and higher..... and higher...  Much enjoyed! Love and peace Maggie ((~.~))

I want to thank you all for your very kind comments.  It takes a lot of work to search out your real self, and I felt like writing about it as it is a long, hard journey.  Balladeer said it all - I hold this one dear.  This is not a new poem but one I did at least a year and a half ago when I started a journey, that will probably never end now.  Thank you all so much.

Irish Rose: Sure you can fly with me, but trust me it is better to chart your own path and fly solo.

Marge: Thank you dear poetess, I am glad that you liked it.

Sharon...you've captured the essence of the journey into self exploration and self discovery with the highest level of excellence!  You and I share similar memories of adversities faced along this journey of life...so much pain and heartbreak known ~ however, survived.  There is a healing process that must take place before we can ever truly be free from the bonds of yesterday, and it is necessary to search our hearts and souls into the deepest and most sacred levels to allow that to take place.  I found myself completely lost and intrigued in this most embracing and deeply moving message.  Thank you for taking us along with you on this most incredible journey into the cleansing of the spirit and mind...So beautifully spoken...
Hugs, and much love to you, always...

Sharon, this is a wonderful introspective piece of final acceptance and self-discovery.  This is a trip that I should take. This poem touches me very much. And that graphic was perfect!
