Abandoned
Stone foundations
Now stuttering
As they try
And speak of
The who and what
That once was

Encroaching
On once upon a place

Vegetation returns

Crumbling the
carefully planned
With roots gnarling
In cracks left
By time

No tales to tell
That are not buried
In layers of forgetting
I stand and stare

Empty eyed
like the broken
Pains
Of windows that
Are no
More

I too have a hard time seeing the ruin of something once grand and architecturally beautiful. They built them with such craftsmanship (now an art of the past) that the blood, sweat and tears still shine. It's like erasing a masterpiece, nail by block.
Wonderful verse.
Sincerely,
Regina
