I wonder if this is the kind of day
Del Shannon had in mind when he wrote
“I’m a-walkin’ in the rain. . . “
not really windy or stormy, but just a gentle rain
the kind of rain that falls for so long
that you wonder if it’s ever going to stop
the kind of rain that brings life to the ground
but just brings pain and loneliness to your heart
a falling August rain

you can even see it in the people as they walk by
the usual smiles on their faces aren’t there
they’ve been replaced by the kind of look
that can only be described as Stepford-like
many looks, but strangely all the same
and the rain falls into their faces
and off their umbrellas into their spirits
not growing them, but drowning them further in
a falling August rain

all I can do is sit here, and look at them
wondering if they have the same feelings as I
if they’re asking themselves why this rain has come
with a hint of September’s chill and breath
perhaps it’s just that we’re not ready for it
perhaps we just don’t want it to come right now
but come it will again, just like it always has
and we’ll remember that it all began with
a falling August rain

opposite of what you mean, my thought of this line
quote:
the kind of rain that brings life to the ground

was that even the birds can't fly now...

I know that's not what you meant, but that, Sir, was the image I received...

well done...

I often think the rainy weather to be the soul searcher's delight, your words gave me thoughts along those lines. Very much enjoyed.

Sven I love your poem but I am envious of your rain. Where I'm at we were just told that we are on water restrictions and can only water yards once every 5 days and like idiots we sit and hope for a hopefully mild hurricane. That's our only hope for rain during this time of year.
Feel free to send your rain to us, and I'll share our sunshine with you.

Sven, youw ant rain we got it. I live where there is over cast almost all the time, we celebrate when we get a bit of blue sky and make a huge deal about the sun. I have seen all types of rain and can well relate to this, enjoyed the read.

Nice, different from the usual themes you bring us. I like it, its interesting, people do all put on a certain face in bad weather, the stepford look-I liked that a lot.
I like misty rain sometimes, but if you are sad, it just seems to feel like more tears.

I love drizzles of soft rain.....the sound of it.....the smell of the earth as it embraces......

But feeling a strange inexplicable sadness today....I find myself relate to your words too well......

Thank you......

Living not very far from you, I too experienced that same rainy day feeling. It's not too late...quick grab your jacket and lets go for a walk. Perhaps even splash in the puddles?   Nicely done!

I'd love a walk in the rain right now, a calm, steady rain.   And I don't think I'd mind if it went on and on...

Rain did someone say rain? We have so much rain here it is ridiculous, but I absolutely loved your poem Sven, fantastic!

Hi Sven,

Beautifully done piece of work here, enjoyed it very much. I do think more it seems when it rains and have wondered the same as you in this poem, wonderful.

After reading so many of your other works, this is a pleasant and somewhat unexpected surprise. I'm glad to see you writing in a different (well to me anyways lol) style and doing it so well. This is a very thoughtful and imaginative piece that slowly carries the readers along with it, almost blanketing us with the rain you describe so eloquently. Very well done; I like this a lot!

the rain seemed to be a theme yesterday. . .hopefully, it has moved on. . . for all of us. . .

thank you. . .

As Del said, "Torture in my heart, just tryin to forget."  And also in another song, "And I wonder, why, you went away."
Wonder if he wrote these from personal heartbreaks or if it was his songwriter's experiences.
I've had a few sad walks in the rain but overall I love it to rain like crazy and the wind to blow about 35 or so...just don't like to work in the rain....I like it when the wind blows the women's skirts over there heads...I love the embarassed look on there faces as they pull the skirt back down...ha...ha...how about you...James

A nice piece of reflection Sven.....salted with just the right amount of melancholy, the kind of melancholy that stirs the restlessness of life in the heart of mankind. Great writing my friend!
As Del Shannon also said......run run run runaway....I wonder if it alll ties in somehow??

Have a nice day!     Ethome

I too Love the rain in all its many facets. Soft drizzle, its harmless breezeless fall gathering in lather, sideways windblown rain, changing directions and forcing a dance of the trees and even the hurricaine which seems my fury turned for all to witness. Ah the rain. 105degrees here today thanks for the brief getaway.

I too love the rain!  Though it depends on my mood at the time.  If I am down it feels the heaven's are crying for me or with me, and if I'm happy I want to go out and splash in the puddles as I did as a child and young adult!!
We could use the rain over here, headed towards a drought all over the country now..
Beautiful drizzly thoughts Sven.
