Ode to Someone

You may burn down my house but never my home
For love is the blanket of my palace dome
You may steal of my money but not of my heart
For only through trust do my treasures depart

You may counsel my actions, but not creed or faith
For the path of my soul has already been traced
You can tarnish my image, but never can stain
Those traits from my fathers which run through my vein

You speak of great deeds, but your thoughts are misplaced
For the small simple actions are what I’ve embraced
You may set up a code for my child to obey
But just for the moment, just for the day

You speak with conviction but most really know
That your eyes are too shallow for trust to bestow
And a lie through the lip is deceiving your soul
So easy the eye to envision the goal

It may be a village your words have beguiled
But it just takes a family to raise a sweet child

Liz--Your words are so true and wise and lit with poetic grace, as always.

Have to agree with Dec, could well be an ode to politicians.

You have guessed well. This is an ode the the "most intelligent woman in the world".
I will not name her so as not to tarnish her image.
Thanks for reading and commenting.
Sorry, lefties, sometimes I cringe and sometimes I write.
