Vesuvian Anger
Virginia Salter

a bubble of rage at its very core
building
billowing
heating
reddening to toreador

swelling
stretching
seeking release
fissures of weakened skin
pores for vent
cracks in the crust
inviting deliverance

finding none
no valve of safe expel
blister simmers
bloating
filling every cubic measure
to the full
expanding
exerting pressure from within

strengthening
intensifying
weakening its captor
its shell
until
no recourse is there
but to bare
its pain
its stress
its agony to all

Anger
expels
in the search for calm
laying waste to its surroundings
coating all in its wake
with all from within
that had fed the din
of release

leaving its mark
on all that it’s touched
evidence of travail
in the trail of tears
that flow
in rills of agony

Woo!  What an eruption!
I wouldn't want to cross your path when you've got all this bubbling inside you!
Awesome imagery...you detailed this emotion well!

Thanks, Ron! I know it was only one word, but it made a world of difference, as one word always can. I appreciate your suggestions, muchly.

Thank you, too, Smitten Kitten, for the read and the wonderfully encouraging comment!

As long as injustice exists, anger is needed. But misdirected or uncontrolled anger can cause so much destruction. This is excellent!

Thanks, illusion, and I hope you're not one...an illusion, that is.

Any emotion bottled up will find a release one day and it's likely to explode if the safety valve of communication, tears and laughter don't release it gently.

I'm very real.   It's happiness that is an illusion.
