There's not been an alarm
since the time of complacency.
So long ago
it pre dates memory.
The end of the dreamless rest,
not sleep
but unmoving inanimation,
is bumped
by an unheard sound
to a days start of unseen light.
In the baby steps of a zombie
I shuffle to the bathroom
careful of the landmines,
shoes, socks, books, belt,
hope.
Anything I may have given up on
yesterday.
Gravity draws me down the stairs
to the assured sweet
of my coffee.
As light dawns, both outside
and inside my head,
I plan my escape
from what passes for home
and mentally pace
considering how I will, not defeat,
but elude
my demons
unscathed
until exhaustion
brings me down
after
midnight.

this touches me in places deep and has more mirrors in it than I care to confess...
Complacentcy could be my new middle name...
but theres nothing blessed about it and just living out each day depressed means we are owned by those demons...it means they have control...and we have to want to take it back..and that may mean asking for help...
theres no shame in that...the shame is thinking we deserve anything less.
Once again your words effect me.

Like the doors to Heaven would swing open...
If we could just find the right words to say

Unfortunately, I can relate to this, so I can say with some familiarity, well expressed.
I like the way it is characterized and layed out.

If we weren't ever down, we wouldn't know what up was. But the demons do dream with us sometimes. Attacking us in our highest moods, in the most unfair way. Which makes it even harder to get up, but you can. Thanks for sharing! I wish you a safe journey.
Sincerely,
Regina

This is so phenomenal a description of this feeling. Wow, and more words not coming to me at the moment.
