Some say the screech owl
Cries with the voice
Of one lost and alone.

Eerie sounds
Of souls grating across
Emptiness as they try
To find words expressing
The fruitlessness of
Pursuing too many pleasures
At the expense of truly
Sharing love

I heard one calling
And thought of how
I had called to you
On nights black with
Tears and cold with
Despair

And did the sound that was torn from your throat become that of the screech owl?...

this one is still resounding in my ears...

well done, Sir!

And sometimes we gather hope from an echo. Enjoyed

"Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve"

A haunting poem, especially in the timing for this reader, who, on the way to work, saw a dead barn owl alongside the road.

Contracts of the owl, the silent hunter with soundless wings and the screech of the hunt, well said here, with a poignant ending.

Very mournful, Cpat, especially the powerful last stanza
   heard one calling
                        And thought of how
                        I had called to you
                        On nights black with
                        Tears and cold with
                        Despair

btw, were you ok with my Backing Up to Cpat...the acrostic inspired by your Alphabet acrostic on Understanding?

Hearing myself this verse speaks...

Eerie sounds
Of souls grating across
Emptiness as they try
To find words expressing
The fruitlessness of
Pursuing too many pleasures
At the expense of truly
Sharing love
