Lone figure sits cross-legged at his fire,
brethren gathered round, out from their lair.
Night after night, it is all the same,
watching the one that carries their name.
A wisdom stick placed every now and then,
while the spirit guides consult their friend.

No words are spoken, there is no need,
thoughts pass freely bearing their seed.
Time stands still in the hidden place,
while the one prepared adequate space
Many would come, many would go
to seek the fire burning so slow.

In that circle of fur and skin,
a strange phenomena will happen then.
Where eyes would burn from furred face,
an ancient one emerges in its place.
After his thoughts had spread around,
a wolf again lays on that ground

Chiefs and shamans with warriors mixed,
speak with honor and ways so fixed.
The old one carefully listens to every speaker,
asking a few questions about each seeker
When all have done and had a say,
the seekers will come to find their way

Ah, my friend, your tale reeled me right in to the circle of fire.  Splendid descriptions of the events at hand.  I felt myself right there, smile.  This one so reminds me of Ishmar and his tale.  Beautiful work.

I'm going to light a fire tonight, maybe that will draw some company!  That didn't come out right!

I am wearing my favorite wolf shirt as I read this, and am spiritually moved to the center of the circle by this wonderful poem. Thanks. (and thanks to the person who posted those great wolf pictures in a previous reply)
I live with the midnitesun and the aurora, I hear the call of nature at my door, and I  dream underneath the Arctic circle. Thank you for the beautiful words.

I'd say that this is a "keeper"!  And as you would say, "gentle smile".
