don't judge me (friend)
       I've had enough (you)

yes, I've done
       some things
              and said
                     some things
                            that were
                                   wrong

and I'm sorry
       for that

it was never
       my intention
              to hurt (you)
                     and I know
                            that I did

and I know
       that nothing
              can change
                     what I did (friend)

but

I can change me

I can change
       the way
              that I act
                     I can change
                            the thoughts
                                   that I have

I can change

but

don't hold my
       past actions
              against me (friend)

especially when
       you don't know
              the whole story

grant me the
       power to be human
              and know that I did
                     have good feelings
                            at the start

but, you (friend) don't know
       what happened to me
              you don't know
                     what happened to us
                            but I do

I know (you know)

and yes, I didn't
       handle it well
              I handled it
                     poorly

and now, I have to live with my choices

but (you)

don't think that
       it was all me
              it wasn't

but

that's neither here
       not there

we're not here to assign blame

we just failed. . .
       I failed . . .
              you failed . . .

and in our failure, we ended. . .

and now, we deal with the ending of it all

and we move on. . .

because that is
       what happens
              you move on
                     I'm trying to (slowly)
you should as well (you have help)

but

don't judge me
       on my past (friend)
              judge me (if you must)
                     rather on
                            if my future

repeats itself. . . (you)

Nice format, and a sad story told. I hope no one is judging you as less than a friend, because they would be wrong!

well-said, Sven. An individual who is willing to admit that he might have done a wrong thing has the potential to be a very good friend indeed. An admirable quality--and a lovely poem.

sven; to quote Christ "let he who is without sin cast the first stone." one of my favorite passages.
also to quote Josephus, a historian who lived around the time of christ. "history does not repeat itself, it seeks to fullfill itself"
you have a wonderful way with words...

thank you all. . . I've found that it's easy to do this. . . to judge based on past events. . . they happen (I've done it myself). . . and all we can do is try to forgive. . . and move on. . . people can change. . . we just have to believe that they can (and so do they). . . and yes, everyone has another side to them. . . even me. . . just because I don't show it to you. . . don't think that it's not there. . .

Sy, you are correct my friend, too much of one somedays. . . thank you for reading. . .

Sandra, I've been judged for a lot of things. . . and been found. . . well. . . let's just say that the jury's still out. . .    thank you my friend. . .

Constance, thank you for your words, and for reading. . .

wpwpoet, well said my friend. . . indeed, let those words ring true. . . thank you. . .

walker, thank you (friend), you're right, it's not easy being (us), but (we) do try, don't (we)?

Regina, sometimes, it's best to try to start over. . . and hope that forgiveness comes. . . thank you. . .

I'm not sure what I found most intriging about this, the style or the content.  Both have given me pause.

Sven,
A wonderful piece! Sometimes the best of intentions can turn sour, and we are left to deal with the fallout.  All I know, is you are a precious friend to me

Beautifully written Sven! It's sometimes so hard to pick up the pieces and move on ... but always ... we must, whether forgiveness comes with us or not. Much enjoyed your thoughts in this piece.

Best wishes,

The difficult thing is to move on, and sometimes the hardest is to forgive ourselves. I appreciate your words, very tender and thoughtful.  One of my favorite sayings goes like this: Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future, I'm not sure who said it but it is sometimes words I try to remember to live by.

In places there are few you can trust, these words will do wonders. I love this, and your style is one I love as usual.   Keep writing, and that other side...well its none of anyone's business til you choose to make it so.   ((hugs))

NBP, in new beginnings, we can find what we've been missing. . . thank you. . .

Duncan, I'm glad that I could make you stop and think about this one. . . thank you for reading. . .

Elise, thank you. . . you're a good friend to me as well. . .

Kit, thank you my friend. . . indeed, we must continue or become stagnant. . . thank you for your insight. . .

Rex, I know that I shall indeed never even come close. . . but, I can try to be me, and that's all. . . thank you. . .

Gemini, thank you for that quote. . . it's just what I've tried to say here. . . that sums it up very nicely. . . thank you. . .

Temptress, I hope that they will make people think. . . and I shall continue to keep that other side under wraps my friend. . . thank you. . .

Alls I can say Sven is it's like this saying I read once....
A true friend is someone who knows who you are and likes you anyway.......

Judging is wrong, loving unconditionally is right.  I liked the presentation in this. *s*

On the wings of words our spirits fly....and our souls are free.

Without realizing some times we do judge others. All I can do is ask to be forgiven if I have done an injustice to you. Sometimes we read others and believe what we read. I know that is a mistake but have been known to get caught up in the writings of poets. For this I am truly sorry.

Hi Sven! I agree, no one should be judged on their past. We all make mistakes and none of us are perfect. I liked the way you delicately expressed this human failing...very well done! *S*

And with an end comes a new beginning.  A true friend will realize the true intentions and overlook that which has went astray.  It takes a very noble person to admit their wrongs, and it takes a very dedicated friend to start over.  You represent both goods.  Keep up the good work and what a wonderful write!

With my mind I shall explore,
With my strength I shall endure,
With my poetry I shall have legacy.
