Train of Thought
~~~
A lonely railway station
where a pale moon lights the yard
An unkempt lowly trash collector
holds the life's work
of a bard
A far off distant whistle
a fast approaching train
The crackling flame of open fire
in hearth
he stares in pain
~
While twilight's eerie haze reflects
the setting of the sun
The leaping flames
suppress his need
of basking in the fun
A headlight's gleam
cascading
A sadness
through mournful wail
The slow approach
perpetual
in the cadence of wheel and rail
~
The old 600 rambled in
as steam from ballast rose
and brought with it a gentle rain
that soaked right through his clothes
Conductor shouting
' All Aboard '
as hearth receives his notes
He climbs aboard
the
Train of Thought
as a distant thunder strokes
~~~

Ah Rex, you set this up perfectly for my being able to say that I see the writing on the cars....

and darn, but I felt the lonesome with the whistle, too....

Yes, this has a great moody feel to it, and thoughtful as well.
Enjoyed.

Such a wonderful rhythm and flow from you as always Rex. Perfectly descriptive ... you've set the mood beautifully in this pondering of thoughts. Much enjoyed!

Best wishes,

Trains, thought and writing seem to go well together.  Something about the steady rhythm.

This flowed and I'm ready for that boxcar. I love trains and I enjoyed the feeling I got when I read this one.

Rex, A well oiled machine of lonesome whistles in the night. That always takes your mind with it when it passes through. I loved this immensely!
Sincerely,
Regina
