state of confusion

Amador Junket

Remembering springtime
a Sunday morning drive,
traveling county roads
just you, the kids and I;

Hills as green as the Emerald Isle,
where oaks endure regally;
and Holsteins and Jerseys
forage contentedly.

Past the Consumnes River,
winding over rocks and meadows;
we call out wildflowers by name,
admiring robust cliff roses.

Tiny towns with funny names,
Drytown, Ione, Fiddletown,
steeped in California’s history,
where, time was, gold was found.

Walking main street, Sutter Creek,
wares from ice cream to antiques,
candles, soaps and perfumes entice
from windows of boutiques.

Sipping wine from old vines,
Zinfandel rules the region -
loves this clime’s extremes;
attracts a thirsty legion.

Wrapped inside these memories,
made brighter by love’s sheen,
of chocolate-faced smiles, and you,
and simplicity, so fine.

Yes, the good old times, the great old times. Just reminiscing.

Throw your heart out in front of you
And run out to catch it.
