Another Desert Day

cacti
poked and
prodded inhabitants
of brain’s recall
along, sorry
little doggies they
were,

kicking up dust to
clog visions

day’s heat sifting
in finer than
dust’s covering

body’s release of
resources making
for
muddy runnels
mapping ways between
mounds that had
once peaked but erosion,
and faults underlying,
had gravitated
southerly

the mount carries
its load lightly
two sets of hips in
sway, synchronized by
habit and
knowing

fingering a button on
cotton blue at the
V, wonders if its
being undone
would allow cool
to come in
or would exposure
simply take over

as cacti thoughts
continue to
poke
holes

Wonderfully done.
