PRECIOUS ORDINARY
---

I'm remembering that warm evening
we sat together on the swing
nestled in familiar years of union

we looked out over sloping lawn
too neat these days
with no more babies to play it into comfort

you had loved me into languidness
and I was thankful that the lifting up of wine to mouth
required no effort

I recall that evening often
and I savor it for all its ordinary
because it was the last we were allowed

Life's precious moments are often our most unencumbered ones indeed... Nicely said, Constance..

This has a haunting feel to it, Constance, as if one should ask, "what happened" for the tinge of sadness that is woven into the last line....

well done, m'dear....

Nan-yes indeed, precious and sweet, and over too soon.

Lady In White-very perceptive of you once again. It is as you guessed, and those simple times that much more fondly recalled when there can be no more of them. Thanks for commenting.

There is something about this ordinary that is very splendid and as I grow older I am reminded of how much more I appreciate the simple moments. Thank you.
