When The Angels Came

When the Angels came
we were sitting on a rock
overlooking the vastness of creation.
We were speaking of all the things
she'd seen in her life,
everything she remembered saying,
every word she thought she'd heard,
but nothing had prepared her for the song
that the Angels sing.
It's so beautiful she'd said,
the sparkle of tears in her eyes,
you hear it inside,
not with your ears,
you feel it all over like a watercolor wash
sweeping over your soul.
When the angels came
she squeezed my hand,
love saying goodbye,
sighed against my shoulder,
and passed beyond my finite sight.
When the angels came
and her hand lay limp in mine,
I found the note she'd held so tight;
when the Angels came
she loved me more than life allowed,
but the songs she heard
were far beyond,
her love and mine.

yes, sometimes you hear without your ears, you hear with your heart. Thank you for this one.
