It's raining
the water attempting
in vain
to wash away
the dirt.

The trash
floats
      down the
              street.

Cigarette butts
pool
near the drain.

Candy wrappers
dot
        the
confetti
      colored
stream.

Tourists, unlike me
dart
from awning
           to awning,

Ignoring
the old woman
hungry, cold and
homeless on the corner.

She's crying
and I
relate;
feeling her
loneliness
here
in the crowded city.

Then, a memory
flashes    across    my     mind
of you, love,
my distant sunshine

And,
for the first time that day,

I smile.

misscriss
This was wonderfully written and brought back many memories of my visits to Paris. I actually wrote a poem about Paris the other day, that's why the title of this one caught my eye.  Thank you for sharing this.
Take care.....Sue
