SCIENCE (inspired by a scene from THE KING AND I)

how reassuring
that the world rides
atop a giant turtle
just as the crown-prince of Siam
once said

and not
as I have been taught,
whirling
in abstract space

which is only slightly
less frightening
than if
I alone were responsible
for its safe orbit

oh, my what a thought...to be the one in place of the turtle...I'm so terribly glad for Who really keeps the planets in orbit by the laws of nature He created
