Silk lined and sturdy, it was ready-
I was all set to close the doors
to my past, I just needed to decide
what to pack...

First I folded all my painful memories
of my now too distant to talk to friend,
and carefully
soothed any remaining wrinkles
so that they
would be ready in case
sometime in the future, I might be
of a mind to air them.

Next, and it was four years to the day.
if I remember correctly, of the funeral
where they buried my hope
in the same six foot hole with my love,
I put in my grief.
But I packed it carefully
and made sure I could find it-
there will still be times I am sure
when I have need to get it out.

I was reticent to pack my anger.
Of all the things left from my past
it is the one I find most handy, though
I have tried to rid myself of it so often
that I know it thread for thread.
I once had intentions of mending,
but getting started was like going in circles,
I never found a beginning
or an ending.
I wasn't one to put away an item in tatters,
but my need to close the lid
got the best of me
and quickly I stuffed it
in a dark corner.

Lastly I laid in my need for love and
concern for tomorrow
and then on top of that
my paper and my pen
and closed tight the lid.
All was well, the sun
was still rising and setting
and I
was doing just fine
thank you very much.

Until today, that is, until this unexpected
kiss.  Your lips touched mine
and slipped deep inside.
You unfolded everything I have
and have not missed.

You were smart to pack your paper and pen last, 'cause I really like the way you write!

Jelly,

Well done!
Really like the way you've presented this . . . the lamenting set-up for the killer last verse.

You Penned a great one there, so much feeling all wrapped up, until.

Throw your heart out in front of you
And run out to catch it.
