To Learn Gentle

In the back room the sun
spills quiet,
then the chiming of children’s laughter,
laughter like music,
a simple symphony.

With the sound
the room ignites with gladness,
beckons me to the green neighborhood,
to four of varying ages of glee,
each with a week old kitten
of black with light blue eyes.

As my heart melts again I wonder,
will they learn
in curled fur of love
to be gentle?

Oh, Martie, this one imparts a gentle quality that is also gentle on the eyes and spirit! I can see the kittens now...and the children, and what a lovely picture it is!

The road goes on forever, and the stories never end...

Martie~
Such lovely thoughts.
As said before me ...
they will learn gentle from those who take the time to teach.

The laughter transcended the page~

You are one of my favorite poets here on the board, you are so sweet and your words lift me up at times and I'm sure you don't even know it.  Sometimes I feel so alone I'm going to cry and I usually do. Thank you for your poetry and the fine way you present it.  I admire and respect you, Martie, so very much.

They will learn to be gentle from those that teach in a gentle way.  This is lovely, Martie.  I love every word.     (((hugs)))

I do so love the way your mind works...
and your poets pen ...
they are both following the lead of your heart.
The result is a gift to us

Gentle is as gentle does, and if I were in Marties shoes, I would share this with the children, to see what they brought forth in sunbeams and giggles....

What a beautiful moment this captures.   I believe gentleness IS learned, not inherent - but your words tell me they have a great teacher close at hand.

Logan--Yes, gentleness is not weak, in fact it is a strength.

Sunnyone--It was a lovely picture..thanks for seeing it with me.

Marge--Not sure gentle can be "taught", but learned, yes, from watching the interaction of others who are gentle, by example.

Kathleen--I think this is one of the nicest things anyone has said to me...thank you so much for letting me know your feelings.

Michael--YOu are so right..I'm glad you liked the poem.

Janet Marie--Thank you friend for your always uplifting replies.

Lady--you could be right...perhaps I will.

illusion--thank you for reading and for your sweet reply.

Martie-
Well, I would have sworn that I already
   replied to this one...go figure..
Glad I found it again, so I have another
chance to let you know just how much I love it.
Reminds me of one of my favorite poems...
"Children Learn What They Live"...and so
   very true it is.
   Wonderful write, sweet friend.

When those kittens snuggle up and purr in the ears of gentle giants heaven speeks.

Throw your heart out in front of you
And run out to catch it.

Not a sweetness, but a softness at the end, and a pause for thinking. You write so quietly, Martie, but with the resonance of thunder.
