hark Maiden Fair,
the bell tolls now for thee,
tolls now in a low and somber tone
and they mourn you,
mourn the loss of one whose light was as bright as the sun
but, they could know not what time had in store for thee

as you watched them from that plane
your heart poured out to all of them
the husband that loved you from moment first
when you were still a shy, simple maid
gathering flowers at the marketplace
for some reason, he found in your eyes the treasure of a lifetime,
one that he thought would be with him for all days

the children that you bore to this world
gifts of the love that you felt for one another
proud and strong, having the best of both of you
you knew that now was the time to leave them
for they were ready to share with the world
the things that you had taught them

and so Maiden Fair,
you went again to that place
the place of your beginnings
where time and space have no meaning
where all things are, and all things wait to be

you went there, to learn, to teach,
until you were again ready to return,
to live again,
to live again in the life of a poet
a poet of love who had thought that it would ne’er be his
his words touched the heart and soul of those that read them
but, alas, he had not that love in his heart

how he longed for it!
longed for the feather touches of the one he spoke of in his words
longed for the hazelemerald eyes of the one in his dreams
longed for the joining of heart to heart, soul to soul
but yet, his life was empty, and his longing great

and so, you appeared in his life
as if out of nothingness,
as though you were the embodiment
of his words given flesh and blood
you stole his heart, and gave it new life
life that he would have never thought to find ever again

and he would write you, not of you or for you
but he would write you
you would become his very words
in them would be your face, your eyes, your lips
your body and your soul
they would be you, and you would be them

his heart would sound in his ears,
so strong would the beating of it for you be
a fullness that he could not explain
a drive and a need to tell the world of his love
the love that he had for you
that since finding you, he would need no other
for there would never be another
not one like thee Maiden Fair

no other would touch him again,
for he had pledged undying love to thee,
so strong was his love, so strong was his heart
that he even surprised thee Maiden Fair
for even you had never seen or felt such love
from the heart of one such as he
it was as if he could feel your soul
the spirit of your existence
the power of your life

then, the last words flowed from his pen,
such words were ne’er before written to the world
they felt the love in his heart,
they knew the pain of your loss,
and you felt it daily
wondering why you had been dealt this blow

and so, in that loss
you too left this plane again,
back to that place, to find solace
to find the answers to those questions

they answered them,
simply and without words
when he came out to welcome you back
to bring you to him once again Maiden Fair

to teach you the final lesson
that love is
love is not the heart
or the soul
or the body
or the mind
love simply is

and when love simply is
the world notices
the planets and the stars stop in their orbits
and hearts beat in time unmeasured

bodies join
and
spirits unite

hearts meld
and
hands clasp

when love is Maiden Fair,

when love is

When perfection calls, Sven answers!  Never shall we know your inspiration for this wonderful piece, but you must have spent days on it...

it is a story,
a ballad
a poem

a treasure worth keeping....

Wow!!!  The above stanza is my favorite!  It just reached out and glowed.

A very wise and romantic piece of poetry.  This "renaissance" style suits you well!

Whew!  What a read and I HATE long works, but I loved this my friend.

I wrote something like this, though common in comparison to the works of the Romantic Voice of the North.

Yes, Love is.

Sven - you my friend are the master of what you feel and put into words. This is most beautiful, and I not only read this, but also felt the words as they flowed. Well done...
