Tropic of Capricorn

Tropical waters keep calling me back
To those gentle people with faces of black
To beaches of white under tall swaying palm
To star laden heavens and breezes of balm

Throw me a kiss from the hillside of old
Mosaic of houses and steeples of gold
Echoes of rhythm and spirited dance
Drumbeats of saints on the streets of romance

Send me a verse from the poet I love
Still writing poems from the heaven above
Still piercing hearts with the words that he penned
The master of language, “The Poet”, the friend

Send me embraces from sweet tender hearts
On cobblestone streets edged with burrow drawn carts
Wish me a dream that again I will be
In Tropic of Capricorn’s jewel by the sea

Let me recite you a verse from the sage
Who captured a nation with ink on a page
And thus you will listen to songs loved so much
Of poor earthy ways with a delicate touch

Sing me a samba, most suave to the ear
The lyrics were written through wavering tear
The subject, a man caught in poverty’s cave
Who fishes the night on the crest of a wave

Throw me a kiss from the place I adore
From Tropic of Capricorn’s beautiful shore

(Tribute to Vinicius de Moraes)

Lady Santos, this is a most beautiful rendition of love for all time...and you leave me speechless.  I shall have to place this in my library's Santos wing....

Thank you all for the kind comments' Vinicius de Moraes is one of my favorite poets. Brazilian by birth, he wrote poetry and song lyrics (Girl from Ipanema) The portuguese lyrics are so much softer and more beautiful than the translation, He was also a singer. He was a friend to all, people in high society to the common man. He was one of Brazil's most beloved poets. He twisted words in such a way as to conform to the beat of an African-Brazilian instrument, writing of social issues and injecting humor. He wrote many sambas that were poular in the 60's. The just called him "The Poet"
