It's All In The Eyes

What do you see in your lover’s eyes?
So many poems are written lies.
This obsession with the sky above,
what has that really to do with love?

Ever changing is the moon,
and the sun would leave us just as soon.
Twinkling are the stars at night
but faster still would they take flight.

Gaudy is the light of day
who soon would whisk romance away,
for lover in the yellow light,
looks prettier still in purple night.

Who writes of clouds so gray and dreary
would poets make love to be as weary?
When lightning tears the sky apart,
write me then of the human heart.

If you find love based on the sky.
then on the tempest's wing it shall fly.
Never predictable is that kind of love,
it is as constant as the sky above.

Love will change with every rain,
what then is love but a sky of pain?
So many poems speak of lies,
Look for love in your lover's eyes.

Well it is said that they are the windows to our souls!    but what about that song?  "It's In His Kiss!"  Nah, I think you're right    definitely the eyes!

Well ladies, there seems to be 6 romantics in the house!  I am so glad you enjoyed this one, I am infatuated with vintage photos for some reason right now, and this one caught my "eye".  Thank you all so much.

In the absence of the eyes one fills the void with what's handy. It may be the sky. The sadness comes when the words, so beautiful never have the opportunity to participate in a meeting of the eyes to know for certain if............

oh, that picture reminds me of my wedding picture, that's how old it is   this is beautiful and touching, and yes, the eyes tell it all, sometimes we just have to keep looking deeper and deeper !

Janet Marie ~ to see you read my poem means so much to me, and I do thank you for noticing I tried to link poetry, poets and nature, and for spending so much time on it.

Richard ~ Yes it is sad, to have to "bay at the moon" for lack of the real thing, but I too have been guilty of wishing on a star.

Vandana ~ Thank you.

Nan ~ Thank you for reading this one, and I do thank you for your kind recognition of this one.

Kathleen ~ You make me laugh!  That would make me an antique then!  You are right, what you can't see on the surface needs excavation that is for sure.

Mysteria, I enjoyed this poem very much.  The flow, the sentiment, the unique perspectives regarding the cliches to which we all fall victim, periodically, and the entire meaning of it...  The eyes tell you everything you need to know, once you've developed the intuition to understand...  Very nice work here.

This is a beautiful poem and so true. It starts and ends with the eyes.

And run out to catch it.
