The Horseman Speaks

This steel was forged in a fire so hot,
No earthly heat can melt it now.
The sparks that flew from the hammer's blow,
Seared the flesh from the smithy's brow.

Never a man has seen an edge,
As keen as this that I now hold.
Tooled and tempered within the fire,
Yet never a blade was born so cold.

And men are blinded by the power,
Born within the flame's reflection,
And men are lost in dreams of glory,
And through this weapon seek perfection.

It is MY arm which wields this sword,
And nothing lives where I have gone,
But it is man who points my way,
So look to man when it is done.

I command the legions of the doomed,
The fallen sons of every nation.
My sword has a name----its name is war,
And man commissioned its creation.

Yet man alone can conquer me,
I own no power in the face of love,
My fiery blade is lowered and lost,
I am defeated---by the dove.

This was very good and so true. Eventually I am going to address man's inability to deal with peace and Love, his propensity towards war. Enjoyed.

You are a dove of peace
You speak from the soul
And coo from the heart
Great poem!

Fantastic!!!! May I keep a copy of this one? I do love that closing line, oh, Peaceable Dove.
The Horseman truly speaks with the grandest love of all.

VAS-of course you may---I'm flattered.

NOTE: I always thought a similar sentiment should hang prominently in the oval office.

The weight of this poem, both in style, description, and content felt like the anvil upon which the sword was smithed.  A nice progression to the definition of war through the metaphors used.  I like this one much.
