The Lodestone

We sailed upon a tranquil sea.
The breeze was warm and soft.
We worked together, you and I,
To hoist our snowy sails aloft.

The days were pleasant and they passed
In sweet contentment and delight.
A few storm clouds were round about,
But slowly drifted out of sight.

Then after while, a troubled tide
Carried us into a gale.
No port nearby, no land in sight
And water lapping at the rail.

We weathered through and found our way
Into safe harbors now and then,
To rest and put our ship to rights,
But soon went out to sea again.

We navigated by the stars
And had a lodestone, tried and true.
Not made of metal or of stone,
But of the love 'twixt me and you.

For every tempest we have met,
A lighthouse sent a beacon for
Our ship to follow through the night
And bring our craft back to the shore.
