Too many times they’d said they’d try
Too many times they’d said goodbye
The branch upon a tree of weak had broken
The words of promise proved untrue
False intent and nothing new
The words I do, of care were wrongly spoken

Commitment to the other half had drifted far from true
The years of change had left their mark of pain
The feeling deep inside them both, was one that now they knew
One that told them love would not remain

Nothing seemed to meld or gel, no interest of the same
Mealtime and a few short words, the night
Containing all the words of grief became a sickly game
The ending came, and none put up a fight

Many have their theories, but some start out too young
To take the world on as a pair just might
A stranger then speaks warmer, than the spouse they vowed to love
What goes wrong? What makes a feeling right?

Who’s to blame, who suffers, when loving turns away?
Does fate, it date the clock of change to sound?
Does someone up there high above watch over us each day?
Where in Gods own heaven are the lonely souls all bound?

Many still keep clinging to the love that once they knew
Afraid of change and what in life to do
Searching things inviting to their mind in time of pain
A Mr, Mrs in a play, which each day starts again

But maybe it's just we've let it become so easy now
To break apart what we start when we made that wedding vow
For generations before us stuck like glue when before the wedding- each other -they hardly knew
Loved your words though!

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...

Rick, this hits home, and is so very true, how things seem to change with no intent of losing love, it is just gone. So sad.
Excellent piece.

So many questions, Rick, but very few answers.  Unfortunately this is a reality for more people than would like to admit I bet.  Powerful write full of much to think about.  Well done.

Maybe it goes back to the day when fudge started having many flavors.

I know this sadly well. I'm so sorry you ever had to feel this way. All I can say is hang in there and grow. Never stop growing in life. I wish I could tell you how to reach that point in your life where you are "there" On the Mountain. And you never have to go back to the valley again. But you must go by trial and error and your own spiritual guidance. That special someone is not supposed to be easy to find. Just as your own true happiness isn't either. But I wish you all the greatest along the way. Keep writing.
Sincerely,
Regina
