Damned Dan

I knew a man who disliked the world,
And the world disliked him back,
But he didn't mind, scorn of any kind,
His disposition was black.

He had no friends that I knew of,
His social life was a mess.
"Not a soul", he said, "will cry when I'm dead",
And he was right, I guess.

He had a look about him,
That burned into your brain,
And the habits he had, made the nicest folks mad-
Let's face it, the man was a pain!

One day he set off on a journey,
(nobody noticed for days).
He wanted a place with no human race,
To interfere with his ways.

Now I've heard since then that he found it.
After days and days on the road,
He found a deep pit--at the bottom of it,
Was something strange which glowed.

As he stood at the edge of that funnel,
His head began to spin,
And the eerie glow from the pit below,
Invited him to jump in.

He thought about it a little,
Then figured he might as well try.
"After all", he said, "if I end up dead,
I can spit in the devil's eye"!

So down he jumped to the bottom.
But he didn't die at all.
It seems he fell in the softest part of-------well--
And guess who broke his fall!

And that's where you still can find Dan.
I suppose he's happy as sin---
Swapping jokes with his own kind of folks,
In a place where he FINALLY fits in.

This is a really neat poem.
I guess everyone needs a place
to fit in no matter where it is.
Makes you think..
I like that.

This was a wonderful story...well written and full of humor with a wonderful flow.  Not to be hidden on a back page,up to the front you go!

Constance, I do enjoy a poet who has wit to blend in a story's end!

Good job on this!  Looking forward to more!
