Gift of the Gulf Gull

today I sat upon the beach
my heart open for natures reach
vastness of the gulf’s glory
sweetness in its blue story
then a sound heard from above
echoed true understanding of
when I heard, I was startled at first
then lulling me, quenching my thirst
it was the sound a gull makes
as it soars over waves wakes
I heard the sound, it was clear
pulling me in, pulling me near
it was the purest sound of laughter
the simple joy we chase after
blue vastness of a gulf remote
laughter’s gift… a soul in float

I didn't get to see the pics, but the poem is quite fine...it pulled me back to a time, stepping out of the car in a supermarket parking lot.  Someone was laughing, uproariously and I could see no one around that might share the joy or the joke.  the laughter did not stop, I finally looked up and there atop the lamp post, high above the blacktop, a gull filled with utter delight in the day, I'd say.  That was the first time it sounded as if a laugh to me.  Glad you've heard it, too, cuz you've made such a lovely piece here.

The ocean is one of the most perfect places of peace in all of creation.
Your poem is a beautiful reminder of this.
