The old one leaned back with a gentle smile,
Telling the crowd, this will take a small while.
My tale today is when the princess did hide,
Without the Viking watching or being by.
Six of the raider had found her out
Standing her before them, the leader had given a shout.

…You, my pretty, I’ ll have a taste,
then turn you loose for my men to chase.
He was taken aback at lack of fear,
For a slow smile spread, ever so dear.
“Wuv” she said, with shining eyes,
leave you me, death meets all who tries.

Relieved in spirit he roared to his men,
Barking like a dog won’t succor her then.
As he began his advance, he was suddenly struck,
With the realization, they had just ran our of luck.
A sense of caution spun him around
to see a venging figure, with sword point in ground.

“Wolf”  he cried in aching quake, “you are dead
Return to Valhalla,”  he said with dread.
Olaf, you fool, you picked the wrong one,
You and your men have seen your last sun.
With a cowards rush, Olaf tried to surprise,
The singing sword took his head, leaving dead staring eyes.

Wolf moved quickly to meet, as his namesake,
The princess’s clear voice, battle song she did make
Like the snarling beast he met them all,
Till four of the others he made to fall.
A hard thrown knife ended the fight
As the last of the cowards ran in flight.

Now, princess, Wolf smiled when he was done.
What would have happened if I had not come?
She showed a short sword, hidden behind her dress,
Dear Wolf, I would have given my very best
And I would have won, for you taught me well,
So no longer on that subject you will dwell.

A booming laugh, he didn’t hide,
Nor the facts of his great pride.
Reaching out, he took her hand,
Then to the ship we go and leave this land
If Wolf had been aware of the look on her face,
He would have given up then in the lovers race

I like this tale!  I would say more, but I think I need to read it again, for a little more lies behind the words than one can take in by first read...

this is a unique tale. . . I love the Nordic influence here, reminds me of the tales of Odin and Thor. . . wonderfully done. . .

The last two lines especially intrigue me as to the next chapter...

we love what is lost, but does what we lost love us back??
don't worry about the past, the future is far more important, unless you did something

Your tale is very intriguing, my gentle friend.  I am betting the princess never has to worry about what she would do if the Wolf had not come.  He knows when she needs him so he shall be there if he can.  I must say, I am loving these.  Much to ponder in your tale.  Yes, the wheels spin on . . .
