where the sky and horizon meet

0 posted 2001-07-28 01:45 AM

I prick myself
constantly
with tiny needles of doubt.
They poke and prod
at my heart
and make me want to shout.

I sew bright clothes
and hide beneath
their happy facade,
laughing when I want to cry,
smiling when I'm sad.

I weave a tangled
web of lies
that I tell myself
and so I forget who I am,
and wonder at everyone else.

Do they see the pin pricks?
Do they see the disguise?
Do they see how lost I am,
in this web of lies?

Everyone's got their demons...and the hardest one to beat is the one the mirror. trust me, i know. i know what it's like to wear a mask.

a charged write. you sound like you're on the edge of something, a pivotal point in life. i hope this poem is the beginning of your journey to peace.

good stuff.

the Bar is always open.
the Time is always right.
if god's lovin Word goes unspoken,
the Music goes all night.

I love the phrases you use to make your points of introspection, good job.

It's kind of funny to read this after finishing a tiny book on expecting miracles by Norman Vincent Peale.  Maybe you are at a pivotal place in your life. Exciting prospect!

We all wear the mask to hide our soul, and cry for the love of God,  the only one who can know who we truely are...

no one sees how lost you are
all that they might see are scars
the scars from pinpricks lost to skin
pinpricks that hide the you that's within

this is a very introspective piece, the "pinpricks" being the thing that we might say to ourselves that help us to hide from others. . . if only they were fewer. . .

good job. . .

JLR ~ why thank you    it was lovely of you to stop in and be the first to read!

Ethan ~ yes, I believe I am.  It was a successful poem if you got that much from it!  Thank you for your comments, they mean more than you can know

Marge ~ thank you Marge, for the read and your kind words    That smile is not a mask today!

VAS ~ thanks tons    I love the phrases *you* use in your poems so it is an honour that you have enjoyed mine.  I love hearing what different angles people get when they read my poems.  I don't often write gloomy ones but so far I've had two on here and it's nice to see that people can pick out optimistic views in them!

wpwpoet ~ well said

Sven ~ ohhhh!  My first reply with another poem!     thanks Sven.  You are bang on with your comments!

I think you speak for most of us, we all try to hide those pin pricks...but our hearts bleed out of them anyhow...nicely done!
