The Gift

By Dan Owens

A man walking
In an imperfect world
Finds himself imperfect

The seeds of defeat
Are sown below him
The joy of his dreams
Lies within his view
On the horizon

If he lowers himself
Into self pity
He warms the seeds
They grow quickly
Into vines
                    That can entrap him

If he fights his way up
And dusts himself off
Then takes a look at the horizon
He finds that his dreams
Have become much clearer
And closer to him

He begins to believe
In himself
And in so doing
He realizes
That he has found
The gift of wisdom

Throw your heart out in front of you
And run out to catch it.

you KNOW i love this... amazing!!

this knowledge is extremely hard to come by...

I do not regret the things i've done,
but those i did not do.

What a gem of wisdom you've written and shared.
Thank you for your perspective.

I like how in the third stanza the lines go off to the side. . . showing what happens when we find those vines. . .

a lesson told well here. . .

Sounds accurate to me, Dan.  Creatively digestable analogies, too.
