In a corporeal internship...

0 posted 2001-07-27 11:52 AM

I find myself
Once again
In a state of
Depression

I withdraw
Into my mind
And think of scenes
I left behind

I try to set up
Goals to follow
But times like this
They all seem hollow

There's one thing missing
I must confess
An honest feeling
Of happiness

I dwell on things
I should forget
My memories
Hold much regret

My burdened soul
Supports the weight
Of stupid moves
And twist of Fate

As I endure
This misery
I bask myself
In self-pity

Ron, I just hope it doesn't overstay its welcome...  Thank you, as always for the read and reply.

Krista -- hugs always graciously accepted!  This mood comes and goes with feline stealth, as with many people, I'm sure.  Thank you for stopping by and making your presence known.

Chelsea -- thank you for the comments.  I was just expressing a moment in time which has since passed...

Misery is the most unwelcome guest that shows up sometimes without the decency of calling first. He visits us all from time to time. I'm glad you gave him the boot!

Sincerely,
Regina

Sure is, Regina, although in a twistedly ironic and dark-humorous way, a Russian was quoted for having told someone, years ago during the Soviet regeime:  "Leave me to my misery -- it's the one thing that I can truly call my own"...  Thanks for the read and reply.

Well Mark, it does indeed sound like you have been where I am these days.  I am glad that it has passed for you, and do hope that it never returns for you.  It is a hard place to be.  Hugs.

Melissa, I'm sorry it had to be these words which hit home for you...  Writing feelings out is better than any medication a doctor could prescribe.  I wish you a smile and a soothed heart.

Thank you, BIll -- it already has. :-)

Gentle Spirit:  may Happiness grace you with her kiss and cradle your heart with Love.  Thank you for your words.

Hi Mark, I've been there and it bites. There are many remedies. You'll find what works for you. Good poem, hang in there.

Throw your heart out in front of you
And run out to catch it.

This is a topic I am well versed at.  I have to disagree with you on one thing though if I may.  Yes, it does help to write things out but it is not the cure all.  Unfortunately, sometimes that opens up a floodgate of emotions and you can't deal with it.  It is a two-edged sword.  Sometimes medication DoES help, maybe because a person has other chemical problems. Anyway, I enjoyed this and wish you God speed!

it's like the rhythm should be slow, but the lines are short, so it's fast. so i read it both ways.

i'm glad you feel better. don't let depression become your constant.

good times, good rhymes.

yes friend I too feel the depression...mant times deeper than I wish to bare. I have spent many years searching for the why of my depression. I can liken it to feeling the pain of the world; hearing all the children cry at once. Through it I found that this is not a curse but a gift from God, and I can use it. I have been shown the agony of this world(not that it is all bad)and now can pray for us all. As a tool I can now help people. which helps me to see the good.
peace love and understanding...wpwpoet

Dan, thank you for the encouragement and understanding.  This poem was actually written back in 1991 but, I believe, holds universals, even today, depending upon circumstances and perceptions.  By sharing this, I thought it may in some tiny way help to ease the burden others may bear through the knowledge that they are not alone in their murky feelings, at times...

Kathleen, perhaps you are right -- I'm not going to even pretend to be a doctor;  however, personally, I am VEHEMENTLY against the "Western medicinal mindset" that drugs are the end-all-be-all cure to EVERYTHING in our universe.  I passionately believe that all of the answers are within each of us, as they always have been, and it is a matter of getting to them, naturally -- whether it's through meditation, talking with family & friends, art, reading, or a myriad of alternative possibilities.  Understood -- that one must be at a point in time and space to where they can "allow themselves" access to such things, and true:  opening the "floodgates" to deeply dormant issues may prove to be overwhelming to many, but I am convinced that there are a BILLION better ways than brain-numbing and cell-killing things like Prosac, etc. to get to the center of the problem.  Understanding and Resolution -- not burying and ignoring.  As I said:  this is strictly my self-confessed point of view and all of my readers may choose to disagree, but so I stand.  Thank you for your honest read, reply, and wishes, Irish Rose.  I am glad you voiced your position.

Ethan:  thank you for the positive words.  Definitely not going to let depression be a constant, but I won't deny it's unpredictable surprise visits every now and then, and this poem simply acknowledged the state of being within its realm...

wpwpoet:  I think you've nailed something here, very heavy indeed...  There's a German expression called "Weltschmertz" which translated means "world pain" -- exactly the feeling you describe -- feeling the pain and suffering of the world, all at the same time.  I think that by the very nature of one being a sensitive (more often than not even hyper-sensitive) poet/artist, one tends to empathize and sympathize with the hurt of others, and how can we not with the constant bombardment of negativity over tv, radio, newspapers, magazines, and daily experiences in our lives?  Makes one think that there is no good left in our world...  I for one lash out at that thought, and in my own tiny way try to contribute to the opposite and live by example.  I may not "change the world" but by changing myself for the better, I can strive to live in the space and knowledge that I'm not buying into the game of negativity...  Thanks for the thoughts -- they are always appreciated.
