Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-07-26 08:51 PM

Tulle Time

there are stages
in ages
we remember
and perhaps some
will come
in later Novembers

all I have is a
photo’s memory
a love to dance
to raise arms in
reverie
but the memory
is of fear and
disquiet
something held
back in a
long ago riot

a black and white
and my age? but three
and girls in tulle, with
umbrellas, all
little ones, we
small children, our
ages so varied
and the spotlight
we shyly carried

as the old
black and white
photo shows
little then did
I know
my first time
in colored rouge
but it did not
show my tears
deluge

hard to know
why the limelight
hard to think
it was my parents
delight
to put me in a
place of show
when their little
one was shy,
just so

timid, but the photo
shows a pasted
smile is there
hard to believe
I had asked for
stares
all I remember
is falling down
a wonder then
I didn’t break
my crown

the memory of
what went on
came behind
curtains, off stage
I believe
fear is why my
mother’s face
set in rage
as fact was
I had hurt myself
she then and there
put me
on a shelf

it’s not her fault,
it’s a mother’s
fear
as children
hold mothers
hearts
so dear

no memory of the
camera’s flash
but only that
someone in
their rash
had moved too
fast, or decided
to quick
and the moment,
gone,
it went in the
click

there is a
dream for
which
I still yearn
a dancer’s
stance
my ankles
still
burn

Wow.  I never danced as a child...still I understand the dissapointment of this.  Love the b/w images of memories.

Aww, Karilia...I know this feeling...for I was there too.  You have told it so wonderfully, as usual!

Me three, I danced as well, but all the way until I was 19, so I have the pictures.  What a memory you penned.

The challenges of childhood and the expectations of parents, all now memories which we hold dear, I am sure that all these experiences make us who we are and give us the inspirations which we seem to always find.
We would all love to dance in our dream of romance, but it becomes a little harder in this the real world.
You painted a lovely picture with your words once again, the black and white photo flashed in my mind again and again.

Great read.

Well told!

Puts me in mind of the book/s I'm reading, Beverly Cleary's memoirs and some of her juvenile books as well.  She has many tales that were spawned from her real-life insecurities as a child and young adult.

This is meant to say, this could be you some day, writing your memoirs because people want to really know the author.
