Listening to Myself

Have I exploded yet with my need
to speak to you of things
that whisper into the soft neck
of my ticking clock

Have you seen me color up to sunset
and slowly sink my feelings
along the line of your deepening night
until all you see is the silvered palm tree
and all you hear is this whistle
that slides down stars
and drops like hot wax into your listening

I still dream in buckets full
of long legged youth
where I run and don’t fall
climb and not weary
and somewhere along the way
I lost all those tears
soaked the years with them
until flowers grew in each depression
and I forgot the reason

Could it be that I am content
to sit here talking with my fingers
as the afternoon breeze stirs
the trees outside the window

The soft neck of my ticking clock
doesn’t care for emotional outbursts
it is not tempted by the patterns that I draw
that take the mind backward
but it does yearn still for some truth
that I know I left in the curves of sand
where I still see my bodies print
full of beguile and calling the tide

Do not listen to me dredge this day
I say to the afternoon of white paper
and lazy dog flicking ears disinterest

It is enough that I listen to myself
or is it

A wonderful piece of writing. You have written yourself into the wind. *L* Sy

again I enjoyed every morsel of your poem, but the above line is beyond exquisite, as are so many of yours

and that is exactly what time is able to grow into each depression, given half a chance

I'd love to share that particular line to a Hope for Healing group, a group of people who've had various types of losses of loved ones, may I? I will give you credit...it'd be lovely if I had a last name, if you're comfortable with that.  You could e-mail it so you wouldn't have to put it out there for the whole world to see on the web.

As yes, my dear, please remember "inexpensive therapy" so while you are listening to your thoughts, continue to pen them, to help the rest of know that, "yes, it is"....

and don't you EVER stop....

As I told you I read this last night...
and had comp probs before I could reply...
but i doubt I would have had the words to adequately tell you how this one effects me..
its like you read my soul in some of these lines...
This is an exceptional piece of writing...and an exceptional level of inspire..and considering the level of gifted talent you already consistantly write at...I find this poem just that much more remarkable...
Again I say...I want to write like this when I grow up
me

only you could give love that satisfies the soul...
see the darkness of my heart and still won't let me go.

No, it isn't.  You have too valuable a gift not to listen to all of God's creation and report what you hear (and see, and feel, and taste, etc.) to us

Okay, you keep talking with your fingers and I will promise to always listen especially when your fingers are wrapped around that magical quill of yours.  This is an outstanding free-verse capturing the wonderment and the quizical mind of one that will never forsake life or what it has to offer.  Well done as you already know.

Martie you are starting to overtake the binder in my cabinet here, and I am thrilled too.  I have no idea how you write like this, none, but dont' stop ever please.  You can make speck of dust come alive with your words Martie, what a gift!
