Just another ordinary fog
Orange skies at night
From distant flames as they rise,
Such a strange and eerie glow
Begging me to follow
Driving for miles,
Lost in silent, nostalgic thought
Just driving, and knowing naught
But what the wind will allow
Saving me somehow

Still, the fiery glow
And it feels good to be alive
On my own, breathing in the night
Passing through my old hometown
My head spinning round and round
Been such a long time
Since I touched the heart of life,
Or even lived my life
Chasing those far off dreams
Gone forever it seems

I’ve forgotten how it feels
To enjoy fresh air again
Just driving nowhere
Not knowing where I am led
Not caring, just living instead

This is a night I’ll remember
How the air felt so good tonight
And everything seemed to fit just right
This all feels like the perfect night
Just because I feel alive
Tonight

Interesting how special moments come gliding across our mind...no intent to remember it solely, years and years later, but that is the time that comes closest in our recall...

yes, I've had a tonight just like this....

morning PK *S*
love the imagery in that first verse
nothing like a long drive with no real destination to bring us to where we needed to be.
sometimes momentary contentment can be found in the places we least expect...
this bittersweet write conveys that poetically perfectly...
felt like I was along for the ride *L*

Smiling here--I think I know this route--and this is great..

I'm very impressed with this piece...the imagery and coupled allegory is very impressive. You've gone to a level here that I like very much!

very glad to see you posting again.

Sun - we think alike. *S*

JM - Glad you came for the ride...

Tiersdin - Hop on in with all of us. Thanks.

Serenity - Close. All roads around here really. But yes, close to the river. Thank you very much.

chasing those  far off the dreams,
Gone forever it seems,

I like this one whenever I have a problem or feel like I don't want to think I drive around, just drive no direction

The memories that encase us through life and appear when we need them most is what keeps most of us sane I do believe.  This was a wonderful write as all your works are but I especially liked the feeling I got as I read it.  I think this is one that most if not all of us can relate to and that makes it a poem for the ages.  Bravo.
