Hello Passions.....this piece was meant to be one poem but I noticed how the theme switched at some point through the poem so, I had to add another title so, it's like two poems in one....I hope y'll enjoy it!!

Guns, shootouts, drugs, and packed jails,
living in the ghetto, is hard for a black male,
it's like flaming torches and Satan
as hell's fire, scorches the pavement.
No peace, in these cold streets,
paranoid thugs, hold heat
and fight with the police.
Houses with no heat,
with no food to eat,
the residents are moody
cause of, a drug that affects the brain
the one they shoot in their veins,
that goes by the name of cocaine.
Thieves are creeping through the evening,
on their neverending mission of stealing,
empty souls, with no touch or feeling.
Life falls like the season,
you wanna leave this region
but, you can't cause, your soul is trapped
and your mind, is controlled by crack
and before you know it, your life goes black.
Man, I'm about to break it, cause, I can't take it,
cause, my queens are walking around almost naked,
I remember when black beauty used to be natural & sacred,
but now, they get fake breasts, fake lips,
fake hair, fake eyes, fake fingernail tips,
and whatever else they see unfit.
We used to be blessed
and dressed like egyptian pharoahs,
shining in our golden apparels
as, cupid was always near, holding arrows
as we resembled, two golden sparrows.
We used to meditate and light incense,
performed rituals for eternal love to commence,
smiling in the golden bliss of happiness,
as I was your king, and you was my princess
as we had royal intent, to repent our sins
as we used to be, the most intellectual
as well as, the most perpetual
as we used to go to the deepest beaches,
made love and ate the most sweetest peaches.
We used to praise the mighty Allah,
for being such a great heavenly father.
We used to be faithful to one another
as, we always loved our sister and brothers.
We used to drink sparkling wine
and ate with no stress on our minds.
I used treat you royal, rub you down with oil
until I knew your fluids inside, were bound to boil
as, I made love to you in 100 different ways
as our love, used to be forever and always
but now, things have changed
life is no longer the same
cause now, my women have become b***hes(excuse the pun)
in the streets selling their jewels for riches,
while drugs bury my black brothers in life's ditches
and it hurts me so, like a million stiches.
It's like were always out of sync,
do wrong, everytime we blink
like, we write our life journals in red ink(blood)
like, we act before we think
as we're crazy folks,
who don't see shrinks.
What happened to the bond we had,
where every family had a mom and dad.
What happened to the when we got along
because, our friendships was so strong.
What happened to the times when money wasn't everything
because, we were the wind beneath each other wings,
now, we kill one another over simple things,
living hellishly, looking out for self, living selfishly,
as we bring each other down, by our own hate and jealousy
as my people's soul, seemed to be doomed by greed
as crack, pot, and weed, consume their needs.
Man, I wish that all this chaos never happened
cause, things ain't the same, now that satan taints the game
as my peoples' souls, has become cold, and helplessly blackened.

I can't speak to this except on the surface, as I have never lived it, or experienced anymore of this than passing through such places, I will say I read just this weekend some verse by Langston Hughes...which in some ways speaks to the why...

Nicely written withh good imagery and form...

Oh, Nate, once again you have showed us a picture of another way of life.  You may think it is only your people who have gone down these paths, but I am afraid you have alot of company.  The older we get the better the "yesterdays" look.  And you also know what you are looking for.  It was great once and if you look hard, maybe you will find it again.  Good luck, friend,  ME

I wish that this wasn't real life, the world looks so cruel sometimes, but there is still beauty around us.Thanks for sharing.
