In a corporeal internship...

To what do I owe
This feeling of woe
I try not to show
So only I'll know?
A feeling within
Of the greatest chagrin
Though outside I've been
Always mannequin...

The Love that I lost
Is one never had
And how great the cost
Of this dream gone bad...
Inspiration eternal
Flows forth from this well,
But the pain is infernal:
From the bowels of Hell.

For every word written
And every phrase sung,
My heart has been bitten
By Desire's toungue:
A desire to get,
A desire to give
A desire to forget
And a desire to forgive...

that sent a shiver down my spine. it feels like youve written that thinking of my own personal situation. amazing!

Though dreams can be deceiving
Like faces are to hearts
They serve for sweet relieving
When fantasy and reality lie too far apart

Yes, this gives me chills, I so much have been there. It's a fight to get out, too.
Good strong poem.

Such is the power of honest poetry, mpt.  Glad this resonated with you, and thanks for reading & replying.

Sandra, keep fighting -- writing these types of poems serves as good exorcisms, you know...  just stay clear of its pea-green soup... :-)

They say (you can't lose what you never had).....
and yet the pain of that is always great..

Indeed, how great the cost?......

A very well done and expressive piece....
The pain is almost tangible......

Thank you dear friend

Thank you, Connie.

Wow -- every line?  Thanks, Walker.

JM:  Thank you, kindly...  this was going to be a slow swing-groove/strut jazz-kind-of song for a "torchy" vocal, but I never got around to finishing it, so I kept it as a poem.  Glad you enjoyed.

Most certainly they are, Logan.  Unrequited and spited...  but at least channeled into something artistic...  Thanks for the thoughts.

MEM:  But you can lose everything attached to the virtual and vicarious nature and impression of "what you don't have", and therein lie the pain and growth...  Thank you for your kind words.

James -- World tour??  Man, I sure hope not! I hope that it's never heard again! :-]  Thanks for the funniest reply I've gotten from you! :-)

Thank you, Richard, for the kind thoughts.  Luckily, this is a chronicle from the past, but in its own way, universal to many, I'm sure...

Glad you think so, Virginia...  it was a "channeled self-analysis" at the time...

Glad to see you're still around, Elise -- where've you been hiding?  I'd like to read some more of your works...  Thanks for the stop-by.  (Ever notice how we can always have what we don't want?)

I found your internal organ & religion mix highlighted human ferocities spur of the moment reasoning . I guess with no pea skins,& drunk from a cup, pea soup maybe permissible. Cold sores from a wild spoon take preasious healing time.

Mark--In my mind, the last line of your poem is powerful medicine for moving on and for personal growth.

I like the way you write this!

Thank you, Martie...  This was a self-analysis at the time and proved to be its own medicine.
