Waiting

Shades of summer linger still
in echoes of a locust trill
The birds are not yet gathering
their shining quills of common wing

Though in my eyes imagined spread
Of trees of gold and scarlet red
Create a vision I await
When cold winds open autumn’s gate

For you’ll be here in tones of plum
And gold and reddish brown of mum
When orange bittersweet succeeds
To edge the field in spattered beads

I’ll see you when the summer days
Have lifted hot and misty haze
And let the tones of autumn pass
The palette’s greens of leaf and grass

May days be short and midnights fly
Until the summer passes by
And geese are lifting off the pond
to fly o’er hills and far beyond

When blazing red is on the tree
I know that you’ll be here with me
And brisk October crimson days
Will warm my heart through winter’s glaze

I would be content, Lady Santos, if you could dispel the heat a little, and still allow the warmth of summer to be enjoyed by all...

a beautiful and most colorful write!  Well done!

vividly painted, was wondering why one would be anxious for summer to end...but then, yes if you're waiting for that "special" person in your life to be back in it...I understand.

Very beautiful Liz.

Elizabeth,

*taking a deep breath of that fall air you descride so vividly* I have missed this place of poetry. Being able to carry me to that place you describe. It is an art and you, my friend, have crafted it well.

Marilyn.

Bring on the winter,
burden me down with colored leaves,
let me to gather,
and cool me with your chilling breeze.

Chill the night time,
watch my breathing in moon light,
let the ice bind,
cast me in to darkest night

Autumn in Pennsylvania has to be an exquisite sight, Elizabeth - You seem to be able to see it as if it were there before you - even in the midst of summer... This is beautifully done, of course...

Hi Liz--I love fall...I think it may be my favorite time of year in California...sounds like you have a feeling for it too, for this is beautiful.

I do believe that you paint a vision of Autumn with your words as beautifully as Mother Nature does with her own brush.  Wonderfully written and so nice to be able to read your works again in person.  Loved the imagery and very much enjoyed to flow in this beautiful piece.
