Just Words

by Michael

They're only words I sometimes write
You give them value that I don't
They're simple words borne out of want
That bare my heart to give it light

They will outlive the flesh of me
In a closet gathering dust
For therapy, in these I trust
So I will have no need to flee

In words I clothe myself it seems
To hide the often naked truth
To heal the wounds from out my youth
To piece back all the shattered dreams

They are just words, no wordsmith I
I write of things I'd like to see
And often write from memory
I know I will until I die

These words are but a tiny part
Of what it takes to make the whole
The bath I use to cleanse the soul
My medicine to aid the heart

They're only just a part of me
There's so much more you'll never know
I'll take that with me when I go
Like waves drawn back into the sea

The stars will shine when I am gone
The earth will turn on as before
The gulls still race along the shore
The morning star still kiss the dawn

You read and yet know not the man
The author of so many lines
The heart that beat within your times
The calloused feet that walked the sand

But I am so like everyone
And all you see are so like me
We cork our contents, lest they flee
Until our lives are spent and done

Michael Auguste~
There is more depth to the heart than the mind can comprehend and it only has boundaries when we choose to fence it in.

That's what it all comes down to, isn't it, I like these lines very, very much

You keep digging them oldies up Auguste.

Michael, you always were a wordsmith, apparently
This is a stanza I especially liked

"They're only just a part of me
There's so much more you'll never know
I'll take that with me when I go
Like waves drawn back into the sea"

Michael, your words always touch my heart, either with simple beauty or wonder at the complexness of them.

"In words I clothe myself it seems
To hide the often naked truth
To heal the wounds from out my youth
To piece back all the shattered dreams"

i relate to this the best, as more often than not, it is pain or hardship that inspires my writings

excellently written

Though dreams can be deceiving
Like faces are to hearts
They serve for sweet relieving
When fantasy and reality lie too far apart
