Machines stare

Pathetic individuals

Mummified attention

Petrified heart

Well.. I feel this is a reflection on man made world and how we now let it run us instead of us running them. Modernization in effect and the dependency on such. I could be way off.   More than usual.

And aren't you and I both looking right at it?

Well done Mark.  These get better all the time....

your insight is remarkable...and you are delving into ours, as well...

Regina -- first of all, there is no "way off".  That's what makes this series so wholesome...  these poems are simply glimpses into peoples' perspectives, frames of mind, and insights, and they're all subjective.  I think your interpretation is very acute, and it's more or less what I was thinking (I say "more or less" because I'm not going to pretend to be 100% cognizant of the meaning contained in each one, and I don't usually approach it with complete intent; rather, I construct it conciously to have more than one meaning, even though it may favor a particular one on the surface...)

Thanks, Sunshine!  I'm trying to get into each one to make it as powerful as I can in that moment.  Indeed, we are feeling, hearing, AND staring at it right now!  (imagine what's in store in the next 20 years!)

Mark, I could not figure this one out. I read the other comments, and still, I don't feel it that way either. It sounds ominous, thats my main feeling.
Guess I'm tired/depressed.

Hope your mood lifts, Sandra :-)
In terms of interpretations...  I guess the original concept was the sterile coldness of machines -- emotionless -- and "useless" until a person operates them...  Another thought is how people can be dependent on "cold/heartless" machines (e.g.:  all of us with the Internet -- it is what you make of it...).  Yet another angle can be the media with their cameras and gear, waiting to have a life by stealing glimpses of "yours" (anyone in the spotlight)...  Still another might be the stereotype of the "good 'ol" office environment with its technology, miserable employees, and lack of a life, so to make up for what's missing in theirs, they gossip and climb over each other...  Could be a ton of interpretations, but these are a few that came to mind, afterwards...  Does that help a little...?

Thanks for the interpretations. They still all sound ominous though, don't they.

Indeed they are, Sandra -- this poem was of a darker nature...

Thank you, Ron -- I'm enjoying the incredible liberation this format offers from my core of strict rhyme and meter...  there are many more vistas to enjoy when one turns around with open eyes...
