It's stone...
the coldness kept within
the point of arrow
entered in
that you dare not yank too soon,
but break the stick and wrap the wound.

It's stone...
the weight upon your chest
like the torture of a press
and stone on chains
to bind your feet
and stones you give
to all you meet...
stony smiles
and false kiss greet
cobblestones
on dim lit street
to trip the
death-defying feet.

It's stone.
Awaiting chiseling...
It's stone.
It's cold.
So cold it stings...
Alone, alone
a dirge to sing.
It's lonely
stone...remembering.

Well you know I know this cold, and it is so cold it stings like fire!  Your poem got right inside my gut, and wrenched it, but when you are grieving it is good to get it out whatever way you can.  Hugs to you from me, and I think I will give myself one too!  Very well done on a painful subject so hard to address.

I don't think there are any words to accurately describe what you are going through but you certainly come very close...I am very sorry for your loss, KAren.

Please allow me to indroduce myself to you as this is my first read of your poetry. Forgive me for not knowing your circumstances, but yet allow me to say how much it means to others to pour out the dredges of your heart, exactly as you did. If there is a way to express grief...you did it so well. I'm so sorry. For whatever has hurt you, and made the stones come.
Sincerely,
Rwood

Karen I did not know of your own loss at the time I posted, so I return with heartfelt sympathy in your loss. Like I said, I too am dragging those stones of late, and they are all you said and more, be well, and stay surrounded by love and friends.  Thinking of you with all my heart.   Sharon x o
