On the Rocks Again
Virginia Salter

here we are
on the rocks again
staring out to sea
waves lap at our toes again
as you press your arm ‘round me

the gulls sing a lullaby
as sun sinks into the deep
crimson clouds seem steamy now
as night’s call begins its creep

rhinestones, diamonds, crystal stones
sparkle, twinkle fantasy
solitude and peacefulness
caress both you and me

a distant trombone of the night
alerts the earth about
beneath the glow of Fresnel lens
“When near the rocks, look out!”

Cpat, have you had the joy of seeing a 1st order Fresnel lens up close and personal? Goodness they're grand and big!

SEA, never feel stupid for asking, maybe for not asking...anyway, it's the glass invented by a Frenchman, Fresnel, to magnify the rays of light in a light house.  They are beautiful.  If you do a search for lighthouses, you're bound to run into a site that will show you some.  A 1st order is the largest and can be over 6 feet tall.  I'm not sure of the diameter, but should one be allowed to touch it, one couldn't reach half way around its girth.  They're beautiful, even if the years have nicked them.
