It's raining outside

And sitting here in the gloom
Of a room with too many windows
To hide yourself in

The clock on the wall
Is in competition with the dripping gutters
For most monotonous sound of the day.

At least if it stormed, the wind would accompany
lightning and thunder as they played
A symphony of destruction.

Is it the drip or the tick-tock
Of sweeping seconds that reminds me
Of the years I have spent watching out
Of windows and peering through windshields

Heading nowhere and arriving, only to wait
Searching the surroundings with restless eyes
For the next road…

The next horizon?

Tar strips under wheel at 70 produce the same
Repetitive sound that this day spent sitting
Listening to the leaking gutters
And the clock on the wall,

but the highway
Stretched forever it seems

While this day is only an eternity.

Dadgumit!  You have captured those sounds, all of them, perfectly (well, almost perfectly )

does a clock tick in a vacuum?

then, can that be proof that your journey has taken you far from nowhere?

ooh, I just had the though, with each tick and each tock, one is closer to hearing his/her last, so it's one fewer than the one before, evermore

so, now, will each rainy day and monday be a bit more precious

Thanks VAS... interesting thoughts..and as sound does not travel in a vacuum..the clock would only tick and tock to itself..which we all know when you start tocking to yourself its time to get out more or get help...

Like this a lot. Some days it feels like everything is going nowhere.

Loved this one, Rain storms produce restlessness, was this a thought from the past.

Do not fear going forward slowly,
Fear only standing still.

Powerful thoughts and emotions here.  I especially liked:

Is it the drip or the tick-tock
Of sweeping seconds that reminds me
Of the years I have spent watching out
Of windows and peering through windshields

Heading nowhere and arriving, only to wait
Searching the surroundings with restless eyes
For the next road…

The next horizon?

Very strong descriptions and thought-provocations.

Boredom is quite a palpable emotion, very distinct.  Only a very bored man would write this *LOL*  It's great, captures the emotion well.  I almost wanted to sit and stare blankly at the clock on my screen waiting for it to change after I read it.  Almost. *L*
