Bath time ended in a panic
as he ran looking for his shoes
where are they he asked?
where are my hock and mole shoes?
Now I am usually pretty good at
interpreting 3 year olds, but this
one took me by surprise.
I racked my brain and still
I was at a loss until
we came across his new tennis shoes,
bought the day before….
there they are, he exclaimed
my hock and mole shoes…
I shook my head, still in the dark
(you know grandma's can be
kind of slow at times)
until it finally dawned on me-
three times a week I attempt
to keep my forty six year old
frame in shape,
and I know me, if exercise is pain
then I won't do it, so I make it fun
I dance to rock and roll instead.
Stevie Ray's If the house is a rocking
had my house cooking
and if you'd come a knocking
you'd have found me a huffing
and a puffing, aerobically trying
to hang onto my youth.
And when the little one joined in,
a sight so precious, it was too soon
when my twenty minutes came to an end.
So we didn’t stop, his
come on grandma lets dance
kept us going until we were both
ready to drop.

Now how the words rock and roll
evolved in his little brain I don't know but
until he finally grew into a new pair
they bore the name…hock and mole.

RMW thank you  ...and I didn't really even consider this a poem, it is more a story, but I don't want to forget these moments so I write them for memories sake

Irish Rose, thank you

Balladeer good to see you on one of my poems, I haven't been around much, but then neither have you... thank you much...and yep, us ladies gotta keep that 'shape'

The more I read this, the more it makes me smile. Hock and mole... how easily our vocabularys expand to include such gems. *G* Well done!!! But I notice HFG didn't mention the clouds of hair flying around to choke anyone who came a'knockin'! LOL. Rock on, granny! LOL

What a great poem.  I am amazed at what my little one says (she is 6).

Actually I'm amazed at what my 17 year old says but that is for another reason altogether.

The other day she asked if we could take a boat ride on the "sicken seas."

Thanks for the poem.
