Late Night
Virginia Salter

at day’s end
when blackness fills the skies
and Sandman salts the eyes
I secure doors
batten hatches
inside and out
respective cat-ches
pop night pills
stroll the hall
last encounter
with the wall
tinkle, twinkle
end of light
make my way
to peaceful night
facing bed
I realize
I’ve the rest
of my life
before me
