state of confusion

By and By

There is no U-turn
on this stretch of road
that travels in one direction.
There are arteries leading nowhere;
and you will get lost now and then -
be forced to backtrack,
but you can’t turn around.

Directions are scarce;
this route doesn’t exist
in terms of coordinates,
in fact,
there are no maps at all.

You believe you’re navigating,
truth is, you’re along for the ride;
this vehicle has it’s own agenda:
sometimes the destination is reached,
others will find you stranded.

There will be some steep scaling,
and this mode of transport
doesn’t handle the hills too well.
Remember though,
there will also be coasting moments,
where crossroads lead
to glimpses of heaven.

Oh, did I mention the signs?
Along the way,
there will be many of them -
guideposts, if you will.
Pay attention!
Miss an important one,
regret might become your rider.

Corinne--I think I've been on this road ...and in the same mode of transport.  You describe it well!

I think that I'm really going to need that map Corinne!!

I like this. . . it's just unique enough to be different, with that style that all your own. . .

Which is why so many have drawn maps, some simple, some elaborate.
If they just wouldn't flail them about insisting that others must follow them too!

Enjoyed this "by" way, Corrine.

This one really got to me, especially that last line. Thanks, Corinne, for a step in the right direction!

Sorry, Cor, hon, I have to disagree, even though the read was so good in your usual way, but there are always the crossroads in my mind, so maybe I am wrong, it certainly would not be the first time I made a mistake when my intentions were true, so we pay for those also...but we reach them and turn..ahh, I ramble, sorry...very gentle smile, my dear friend

Just when we think we construct our path it's signs remind us, caution, yield and watch for bumps. Enjoyed.
