I can not curse this pain
That lays heavy hand on me
Stifling each breath of thought.

Is it not darkness that
Lets us know light?

Does not bitter Winter’s breath
Let us relish the sweetness of spring?

I am reminded by this sharp sting
That my heart still feels,
That my soul is not yet
A rotting corpse, to be thrown,
With other rubbish,
Into the fire.

I may not rejoice in this barb,
But in knowing I am alive
I can endure.

the barb
stings alive
my pain
I breathe
yet
again

Well done Captain.  Knowing both light and dark gives us that much more reason to appreciate - both.

A good write with plenty of feeling and thought, to be alive is to feel its joy and to its pain.

Well done Captain

very wonderfully said, Cpat

pain can definitely be a friend, for then one knows s/he is not numb, s/he can feel

but still, pleasure is more pleasurable

Cpat--
In the dark
a candle glows,
Out of pain
grows the soul

Lots of honest feeling in your poetry, sir.  I like that.

Seems like with each new poem of yours, I'm sensing ever more depth and expression.  Thought-provoking stuff, here, as usual.  Brings to mind what I've asked before:  how can we know where we're at if we have no reference point to where we've been?
